TOP HAIR MYTHS…. BUSTED!

TOP HAIR MYTHS…. BUSTED!

Being in the hair industry we’ve heard all the hair myths and “facts” out there; from how best to grow your mane to what you should and shouldn’t be using on those locks. Well, we’re back with our third installment of ‘Hair Myth busting’ to chop down some of the top hair myths out there!

HAIR MYTH #1. MASSIVE SUDS = A WASH WELL DONE

We’ve all used super sudsy shampoos that lather up and make us feel like we’ve given our hair a good, deep and nourishing wash. What if we told you that all those suds were most probably nothing but sulfates that have been added to your hair care to give you that familiar feeling all while actually working against your locks!

Long story short, sulphates are a pesticide and herbicide and although the concentration in beauty products is considered safe for use, in the long term they can cause a few issues - and they fade hair colour (all those hours spent at the salon for nothing!).

Luckily, we know a few lush products that care for those locks from deep within, lather gently and are sulphate AND paraben free - it’s the bhave haircare range, duh! Give your locks the love and care they deserve and discover our range.

Verdict… BUSTED!

HAIR MYTH #2. DANDRUFF = DRY SCALP

This is another one we’ve believed for generations; flakes MUST equal dryness, but is it true? NO!

You might be shocked to find out that oily scalp is a leading reason for dandruff and flakiness. An oily hair environment causes a type of yeast on the scalp to overgrow, and the body reacts by creating dandruff and flakes. So, before you start cutting down on the hair washing, in an attempt to battle your dandruff, arm yourself with a hair care range that restores balance to your scalp, like bhave Scalp shampoo, and use a lightweight conditioner, like Magnify, to reduce buildup. Also, remember to only apply conditioner and styling products to mid-lengths and ends to avoid excess oil and product buildup on the scalp.

Verdict… BUSTED!

HAIR MYTH #3. GREASY HAIR = STAY AWAY FROM HAIR OILS

It does make sense when you think about it; if you have greasy hair surely you don’t want to add more oil, right? Well you might be shocked to find out that hair oils do not discriminate - as long as you only apply them to your mid-lengths and ends.

Hair oils are a luscious way to add luster and shine to your ends, whilst penetrating deep within the hair shaft to care and protect your locks. Try Riot Control Oil to tame frizz, smooth your mane, increase manageability, and nourish your hair all while adding sensational shine!

Verdict... BUSTED! (Just remember to avoid applying oils to your scalp to be in the clear)

HAIR MYTH #4. CUTTING HAIR = FASTER GROWING HAIR

This is another one that has been going around for decades…well, put the scissors down!

Although hair might look fuller after a trim this is just an illusion; the breakage of frayed and split ends tend to make hair look thinner, so when they’re chopped off hair can appear thicker.

Hair growth begins and happens at the scalp, not with a regular trim. Looking after the health of your scalp and mane will make the biggest difference when it comes to hair growth, and finding the right at home hair care is the first important step. Use our product match table below to find the perfect TLC matched to your locks.

Verdict… BUSTED!

With knowledge comes power, and with what you know now those locks can shine… myth busters out!
